The Problem
The platform provided limited ways to upload and manage files across a suite of applications and functions. Files containing outputs would be hosted in different areas of the platform. Uploading or replacing databases would be hard to figure out, or not possible. A single solution was needed to bring a modern file manager experience to the platform.
Research
While the idea of a file explorer is common to most people, we still had to make sure the solution was targeted towards the functionality and feel of Peak, while still feeling familiar to a user. To improve the platform, we started by creating a user flow that outlines all the common actions and patterns that will replace the current workarounds. One example is the ability to replace a previously uploaded file with a new version. We carefully analyzed the user flows and requirements. We proceeded by crafting basic wireframes to verify the feasibility of our ideas and to establish effective layouts that would suit the platform.
Outcomes
File manager has been designed with the user in mind, offering a seamless experience that incorporates familiar patterns and intuitive features. Specifically tailored for Peak, it has received high praise from users who appreciate the time-saving benefits it provides within their workflows. The user-friendly interface is easy to navigate and ensures that even those with limited technical expertise can quickly and efficiently manage their files.
